An
invitation to visit the normally secretive Joint Forces Command Chick- sands,
Bedford- shire, was too good to pass up. This is where the MoD trains its
intelligence service and is based at a former USAAF base. The occasion was
Armed Forces Day and the invitation came about after MVT member WO2 (Acting
Staff Sgt) Mike “Alf” Garnett was transferred from Anglesey to Chicksands and
volunteered to make the family fun day more interesting by whistling up some
MVs to display along with his own Jeep. SE
Midlands Area answered the call and we took along 10 more Jeeps, two Land Rover
Lightweights, Dodge M37, Dodge WC51, GMC 353 and a Bucher Duro II (Mowag). Many
members took the opportunity of a guided tour around the ancient and beautiful
Chicksands Priory, subject of a Time Team dig some years ago. Pictures by Tim Cross
