There was a update meeting regarding Operation Market Harborough on February 12, called by show director Mick Crook … and it’s shaping up to be a great show. The layout has been changed as you may be able to see from the rather bad scan of the site plan. “Plastic” camping and caravans will be next to the road. This will prevent drivers being distracted by tanks (and watching the show for free!). The public will enter the show between the main arena and the re-enactors and therefore be in the middle of things straight away. Mick said the aim was to make the show site more compact and interesting.
Here are some bullet points from the meeting:
*22 re-enactors have booked so far.
*65 MVT members have booked so far, plus another 30 non-MVT.
*Support has been promised from the MVT, Crouch Military, Armourgeddon, A W Hewes and Alvis Fighting Vehicle Society.
*There will be at least 200 MVs on site.
*There is a “tank rides” area.
*The entertainments marquee will be running Friday night and all weekend with music, dancing, fashion show etc.
* Saturday night’s 1940s-themed entertainment will be free for exhibitors.
* Hoodies, caps and T-shirts will be available at cost.
*There will be food traders, other stalls and the biggest mobile bar in England!
*Booking for MVs and re-enactors is available on a new website, to be launched soon.
SEM will be playing a large part in the show. Within the MVT display area, organised by the Charnwood Area, there will be a hospitality tent with free, non-stop tea, coffee and biscuits for members. SEM will be manning this and volunteers will be needed!
A Friday night road run is planned and our own John Underwood is master-minding this.
Tim Hawkes is running the arena and is aiming for smooth-flowing entertainment for 4-5 hours each day. The arena will include a hill and trenches.
Things are shaping up and it all points to being a great show. Please support it and, if you haven’t already done so, get your applications in!
